From the Tang Dynasty, many Japanese monks came to China to study Buddhism. During the song and Yuan Dynasties, Ningbo (Mingzhou) became the main window and link of Buddhist cultural exchange between China, Japan and North Korea because of its prosperous Buddhist culture and special geographical conditions. Since then, Ningbo has maintained long-term friendly relations with temples in Japan, Korea and other countries.

In addition, Buddhist monks from Singapore, South Korea, the United States and other countries have visited Ningbo frequently. In 1983, the chairman of Singapore Buddhist Association and the abbot of pujue temple in Guangming mountain, master Hongchuan, and his group of 16 people visited Tiantong temple and Asoka temple; in 1986, Haolin, President of American Buddhist Association, visited Ningbo dacha; in June 1993, Tian zhongyunfa, general director of Tiantai Sect of South Korea, led a delegation of 16 people from Tiantai Sect of South Korea to visit Tiantong temple. Ningbo Buddhist community has also been invited to visit Japan, Singapore, India and other countries for many times.

According to incomplete statistics, there are 621 monasteries and millions of Buddhist believers in Ningbo. The consumption potential of Buddhist cultural goods is huge. In addition, nearly 16 million tourists from Putuo Mountain, which belongs to Ningbo Government in history, travel to Putuo Mountain through Ningbo every year, 4 million tourists from Xuedou temple every year, and 1.5 million tourists from ayuwang temple every year, which creates a good foundation for the promotion and development of Ningbo Buddhist cultural goods industry, and provides a new idea for Ningbo's Buddhist culture to build a community of common destiny for mankind.
