Overview of Africa
Africa lies in the southwest of Asia. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean in the East, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the Mediterranean Sea in the north and Europe. In the northeast corner, the Suez Canal is used to be the boundary between Africa and Asia. Covering an area of about 30.2 million square kilometers (including nearby islands), it is about 8000 kilometers long from north to South and 7403 kilometers long from east to west. It accounts for about 20.2% of the total land area of the world, second only to Asia and the second largest continent in the world. At the same time, Africa also includes many of the world's largest deserts: the Sahara desert in northeast Africa is the world's largest desert (with a total area of more than 9.4 million square kilometers); the East African Rift Valley in East Africa is the world's largest rift zone (with a total length of 6400 kilometers); the Nile River in northeast Africa is the world's longest river (with a total length of 6670 kilometers); the Congo Basin in central and western Africa is the world's largest The basin covers an area of 3.37 million square kilometers.
Africa is geographically divided into five regions, namely North Africa, East Africa, West Africa, Central Africa and South Africa, with a total of 60 countries and regions. Africa has a population of 1 billion, accounting for 15% of the world's total population. The urban population accounts for about 26% of the population of the whole continent and is expected to reach 2 billion in 2050. The population distribution is concentrated in the valley of the middle and lower reaches of the Nile River, the coast of northwest Africa, the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea, the plateau and coast of East Africa, the east of Madagascar and the southeast of South Africa.
The African economy is made up of trade, industry and human resources in Africa. Since 2001, Africa's trade with China has increased tenfold, reaching $100 billion in 2008.
Overview of North Africa
North Africa, the northern part of the African continent, is traditionally the vast area north of the Sahara desert. North Africa is located on both sides of the Tropic of cancer, usually including Sudan, South Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and the Portuguese Madeira and Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. It covers an area of 8.37 million square kilometers. With a population of 230 million (2015), more than 70% are Arabs.
North Africa medical market -- hidden gold mine
In recent years, the political situation in North Africa has been turbulent. Many large medical companies have hailed the area as a "hidden gold mine.". These enterprises believe that with the rapid growth of government expenditure in these regions, the increase of local medical institutions contains many opportunities.
Although different countries in North Africa have great differences in wealth, living standards and medical security system. However, the common challenge they face is that each country should challenge the deeply rooted traditions in the process of modernization, especially the gender differences in medical treatment. medicine
It is no exaggeration for therapeutics to compare the North African medical market to the gold mine to be mined. Morocco, for example, launched the "government assisted medical model" (ramed) in 2012 to pay for medical care through economic assistance to 8.5 million people (28% of the total population). According to data from the International Monetary Fund, Morocco's per capita GDP in 2013 was $5265, and its government is still trying to improve the level of national health care. According to the CIA's world survey, the population of North Africa has been growing, and its population structure is younger than that of emerging countries such as Southeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula. Although it is different from the growth of medical demand caused by the aging population in developed countries, with the growth of population, the demand for medical products in this region is expected to continue to rise.
Despite regional conflicts and economic shocks in North Africa, the demand for medical products and services in the region is likely to surge in the future. The economic and social development and the improvement of living standards in North Africa, including the growth of disposable income and the increase of modern products and services, are changing the nutrition and life style of the region, followed by some lifestyle related diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Providers of medical products and services will face more and higher quality service needs. The growth of population and the number of educated people will drive more investment in hospitals and medical facilities, and promote their growing demand for innovative drugs, medical services and advanced medical technology.
Regionally, many countries set standards in providing the most advanced medical services, not only for the growing local population, but also for migrant workers and patients to find high-quality medical services. On the contrary, countries in the North Africa region are struggling with the excessive burden of government health care, hoping to introduce more personal investment (such as Morocco). Given the expectation that the healthcare market in North Africa will continue to grow in the next few years, the region will be a key region for healthcare investment in the future (compared with Europe and the United States, which have a slower growth rate).
What's unique about North Africa is that health services are more about meeting the needs of the public than about making money. "Tianke" is the principle of Muslim charity (according to Islamic Sharia law, every Muslim family with legal income must draw 2.5% of the annual net income of the family to help the poor or those in need. Also known as "poverty relief tax"), is the main reason for this situation. Regional government departments are willing to supervise and manage the medical sector to ensure that private medical practitioners can fully understand and embrace the concept and protect the local culture. Population growth, economic development, and the increasing willingness to invest in health care make North Africa the main growth point of health care industry in the next few years. The biggest opportunity comes from the construction of infrastructure in this area, where Ge and Siemens have a lot of infrastructure investment. Many countries in North Africa have also opened duty-free zones for foreign companies, including full ownership and tax benefits, an initiative that will attract more institutions to the region. In recent years, foreign direct investment in this region has mainly focused on biotechnology. Leading biotechnology companies such as Amgen and Genentech have set up resident offices in the biotechnology and R & D Industrial Park, and some smaller companies have joined in succession.
