On October 4, 1975, China and Bangladesh formally established diplomatic relations. Since then, bilateral relations have developed rapidly. The friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural and other fields continue to be consolidated and strengthened. Our exports to Bangladesh mainly include textiles (47.23%), machinery and transportation equipment (30.1%), chemical products (8.02%), metals and metal products (4.26%), steel (1.15%), petroleum and petroleum products (0.47%), etc.; at present, our imports from Bangladesh mainly include leather and leather products (81.73%), textiles and related products (4.17%), frozen food (3.81%) and jute (2.66%) etc.

Bangladesh has become the fourth largest ready to wear exporter in the world after Mainland China, EU and Turkey. At present, Bangladesh has 247 private spinning plants with a capacity of 5.2 million spindles, 365 weaving plants with a capacity of 900 million meters. Although it is generally believed that the post quota era is not good for it, the textile and garment industry in Bangladesh has maintained a growth momentum from 2005 to 2006. Due to the WTO's restrictive protection mechanism for Chinese textiles, some American buyers shifted orders from China to Bangladesh. Moreover, Bangladesh enjoys duty-free market access under the EU GSP and EBA. Bangladesh exports to Canada, Australia, Japan, Norway and other countries also enjoy duty-free market access.
In order to accelerate the economic development of Bangladesh, the government of Bangladesh attaches great importance to attracting foreign investment. The government has promulgated a series of financial and non-financial incentives and policies, including tax holidays, removal of all non-tariff barriers, duty-free import of capital machinery, and cash assistance to exporters in purchasing cloth from the country. Bangladesh has also followed a very free and open import practice. Bangladesh has a stable currency and low inflation rate. Despite the fierce international competition, Bangladesh can compete with other countries in textile and garment export.
