Market introduction:
As the third largest palm oil producer in the world, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia account for 88% of the world's palm oil planting area. According to statistics, in 2013, there were more than 350 palm oil processing plants and cultivation centers in Thailand. From 2010 to 2014, Thailand's palm planting area and palm production increased by 4.79% and 11.67% annually. In 2014, Thailand's palm planting area was 4.15 million Lai (1 Lai = 1600 square meters), and the palm output was 13.33 million tons, an increase of 10.08% and 7.76%. According to the data of Thailand customs office, the export volume of palm oil and its products has been growing at an average annual rate of 14.92% and 12.92% in the past five years. Thailand's palm oil production meets the production standards of RSPO, which makes Thailand's palm oil more competitive in EU market.
The "plan to increase the proportion of alternative energy to 25% in ten years (2012-2021)" launched by the Thai government promotes the domestic demand for palm oil. In addition, the government is drafting the "palm and palm oil strategy 2015-2026" and the "palm and palm oil Ordinance" to help improve the quality and competitiveness of the domestic palm industry.
According to USDA, the world's demand for palm oil is increasing. In 2015, Thailand's palm planting area is expected to be 4.35 million Lai, with an output of about 13.64 million tons. According to the target set by the Thai government's "palm and palm oil strategy 2015-2026", 250000 Lai will be expanded every year, with a total area of 3 million Lai in 12 years.
