Engineering plastics refer to a type of high-performance polymer material that has excellent comprehensive performance, can withstand mechanical stress over a wide temperature range, and can be used for a long time in harsh chemical and physical environments. Among them, polyimide (PI), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), high-temperature nylon (such as PA6T, PA9T, PA10T), polysulfone (PSF, PES, PPSU), etc. are the core representatives of high-performance special engineering plastics. Compared with ordinary engineering plastics, it has unique advantages such as high temperature resistance, high strength, high insulation, radiation resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance. It is an indispensable basic material for strategic emerging industries such as aerospace, new energy vehicles, semiconductors, electronic information, medical equipment, and humanoid robots.
The "15th Five Year Plan for the Development of New Materials Industry" lists special engineering plastics as the core area of advanced chemical materials, and explicitly proposes to promote the transformation of this field from "import substitution" to "technology leadership". The plan also points out that engineering plastics will focus on four directions: high-end performance, independent supply, green production, and industrial synergy. The key will be to overcome the bottleneck of high-end products and core monomers, and to achieve precision in high-end equipment and processes.
However, the external dependence of high-end engineering plastics is still high, and there are still bottleneck problems in core monomers, key equipment and other fields, which urgently need to be addressed through collaborative efforts between upstream and downstream of the industrial chain. In order to seize the opportunity of the start of the 15th Five Year Plan and accelerate the localization process of special engineering plastics, the "2026 Jiangsu Engineering Plastics Industry Summit and Exhibition" hosted by the Jiangsu New Materials Industry Association will be held in Suzhou, Jiangsu from August 17-19, 2026.
