State introduction
The kingdom of Morocco is located in the northwest of Africa, adjacent to Algeria, Western Sahara and the Atlantic Ocean, facing Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar in the north and the gateway of the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. It covers an area of 446500 square kilometers, with a total population of 33.22 million and a per capita GDP of US $2832. With superior geographical location, convenient transportation, developed shipping and rich natural resources, it is known as the gateway of West Africa.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Moldova, relations have been friendly and stable. Since the implementation of the "one belt and one way" policy, Morocco has gradually become a strategic support point. In 2016, Morocco granted a visa free policy to Chinese citizens, which is more conducive to China Morocco cooperation and trade exchanges. With the liberalization of Morocco's market and the gradual opening of its policies, Morocco's key industries have huge market potential and broad space for cooperation.
Morocco is close to Europe. It has signed free trade area agreements with the European Union, the United States and some Arab and African countries, covering 1 billion consumer markets, which deserves the attention of investors from all countries. The obvious location advantage makes Morocco a hub connecting the three major markets of the European Union, the Arab world and Africa.
Why Morocco?
A strong and stable macroeconomic environment and maintaining macroeconomic stability are the main concerns of the Moroccan government. To this end, the Moroccan government has implemented several measures and structural reforms to push the country towards a path of strong and sustainable growth. Despite the challenging international and regional environment, in 2008-2013, Morocco's economy still showed its resilience to the crisis with an annual GDP growth rate of 4.4%.

Free trade benefits millions of customers
Morocco is the first country on the south coast of the Mediterranean to benefit from an agreement with the European Union. The free trade agreement signed by Morocco and the United States (Morocco's sixth largest trading partner) is part of Morocco's overall economic strategy. Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia signed the Agadir free trade agreement in February 2004, which entered into force in April 2007, immediately removed non-tariff barriers and gradually established a free trade area. The free trade agreement signed by Morocco and Turkey supports the growing trade between the two countries. In 2009, the total annual trade reached 900 million US dollars, far more than 260 million US dollars in 2003. The upcoming trade and investment agreement between Morocco and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) will lay the foundation for sustained regional cooperation and turn the kingdom of Morocco into a gateway to markets in West Africa. The signing of a number of free trade agreements has enabled Morocco to give investors tax-free access to a market of 55 countries, representing more than 1 billion consumers and 60% of the world's GDP.
High quality workers
Morocco has a total population of 32 million people, 64% of whom are under 34 years old. The active population is 12 million. More than 20 million Moroccans speak French, and more than 5 million Moroccans speak French. The popularity of English among young people and management staff is high. Morocco is only 14 kilometers away from the south of Europe. It is a very competitive export platform: low labor cost, average wage of 327 USD / month, almost ten times lower than the average wage of Spain. The export cost is very competitive, 595 US dollars per box, and the tax rate is relatively low.
Morocco market analysis
Textile industry
As one of the key industries developed by Moroccan government, textile industry has a history of more than 100 years in Morocco. At present, the employment scale of Morocco's textile industry is more than 200000, which is the industry with the largest number of employees in Morocco. Due to geographical and cultural proximity, Europe has become the main market of Morocco's textile industry. According to Mohamed Tazi, President of the Morocco textile and Garment Industry Association (AMITH), at present, the annual output value of Morocco's textile industry is about 6 billion euros, of which about 4 billion euros are exported to the European market and 2 billion euros are sold in the local market. It is estimated that the consumption of textile products in the local market will increase to 4 billion euros in the next 10 years. In order to promote the rapid development of the textile industry, the Ministry of new technology of industry and trade of Morocco published the 2025 textile industry plan in 2013, which mainly includes: increasing the production scale, improving and updating the production technology and enhancing the regional and international competitiveness, so that Morocco can become a model and leading country in the international and regional textile field. China will become a good partner of Morocco, especially in spinning, weaving, accessories and other fields, and will promote us to achieve our export goals. "
Leather luggage industry
Morocco's leather industry is the pillar industry of the country, and the vast majority of the leather industry belongs to small enterprises. At present, there are 435 enterprises in Morocco's leather industry, including 270 tanneries, 165 shoe factories and 15000 employees. Small enterprises with an annual output value of less than 10 million dirhams account for 82%, medium-sized enterprises with an annual output value of between 10 million and 50 million dirhams account for 16.3%, and large enterprises with an annual output value of more than 50 million dirhams account for only 1.7%. Medium sized enterprises are the main force of Morocco's leather industry. Although they only account for 16.3% of the total number of similar enterprises in the country, their output value accounts for 58% of the whole industry, providing 46% of the jobs, paying 51% of the wages, exporting 65% and attracting 56% of the investment. Morocco is a large animal husbandry country with abundant fur resources. However, due to the lack of capital and technology, a large number of fur can not be further processed. Even the enterprises engaged in fur processing are almost all manual workshops, and the product quality is difficult to guarantee. Experts believe that it is very profitable to invest in and set up factories in Morocco and use local raw leather resources to produce leather shoes, leather clothes and other leather products, and then export them.
Energy industry
Morocco is short of energy, about 95% of which needs to be imported, while the domestic energy demand has grown at a rate of 7% every year in the past 10 years. Currently, oil accounts for about 62% of its total energy consumption. The Moroccan government forecasts that the country's total electricity demand will grow from 24 million kwh in 2008 to 95 million kwh in 2030. In order to get rid of the dependence on oil import, the government of Morocco has formulated the development strategy of renewable energy, especially the utilization of local abundant solar and wind energy resources, the construction of solar and wind power stations through various ways such as national funds, attracting foreign investment and encouraging private investment. It is planned to achieve about two fifths of the power consumption by 2020 from renewable energy (20% solar and 20% wind energy) 。 During the exhibition, a number of new energy enterprises reached orders on the spot, and there were an endless stream of purchasers. Energy saving equipment products were very popular in the Moroccan market.
Building materials industry
Morocco is known as the North African garden. The prosperity of tourism has driven the development of the hotel industry and construction industry, with a large demand for hotel equipment and building materials. After the new king of Morocco came to power, he launched many new measures, the most important of which is to encourage the development of industry, increase the construction of infrastructure, and invest heavily in urban subway and expressway. At the same time, it is planned to build a large CBD in Casablanca, making the construction market gradually prosperous. In recent years, Morocco's investment in infrastructure has been increasing. Every year, major projects such as housing, dams, telecommunications, roads, satellite towns, etc. have been launched, and construction is in full swing, with a huge construction market. Chinese enterprises undertake various projects in Morocco, including water conservancy, hydropower, building materials and railway construction. Project contracting is also a highlight of China Morocco economic and trade cooperation in recent years. Morocco's imports from China are also on the rise. According to the Ministry of equipment, transport and logistics, Morocco will spend 7 billion dirhams for the construction of Jorf Lasfar port, a new energy port. It is reported that the construction of the port will start after the completion of technical research this year. According to local media in Morocco, as of February 10, 2017, the technical research on the port has involved the design level. It is estimated that the construction period of the whole port will be 5 years. It can be seen that Morocco's building materials market and construction machinery market are promising.
Tea market
The consumption level of Moroccan tea is increasing year by year. Historically, tea came from China to Morocco in North Africa through the silk road. Every Moroccan believes in Islam, does not drink alcohol, and seldom drinks other drinks, so tea drinking is popular here.
From the king to the common people, everyone in Morocco likes to drink tea. It can be said that tea has become a part of Moroccan culture. Every new year's day, banquet guests, after dinner must drink 3 tea. In general, people in Morocco also have the custom of offering tea to guests. According to FAO statistics, in 2009, Morocco's per capita tea consumption was 1.7 kg, more than twice the level of China's per capita tea consumption in the same period. Morocco is a developing country with a rapid population growth, so its tea consumption population is increasing. In 2011, the population was 32.27 million, a net increase of 3.48 million over 2000, an increase of 12.1%. In Morocco, a large part of the family income is spent on tea consumption, and Moroccans often say that half of their body is green tea. Although Morocco is popular in tea drinking, it doesn't produce tea. All tea consumed in the country every year depends on import. 95% of green tea comes from China. Chinese green tea is closely related to the life of every Moroccan.
Automobile industry
The Moroccan government attaches great importance to the development of its emerging industries, especially the automobile industry. In 2014, Morocco announced the 2020 strategic plan for accelerated industrial development, among which the development of automobile industry is an important part. In 2014, the export volume of Morocco's automobile industry was 3.65 billion euros, and 200000 cars were exported, an increase of 26% year on year, making Morocco the first largest export product. The Moroccan auto market sold 130000 cars in 2015, a total of 1935, an increase of 8% compared with 2014. Experts predict that Morocco's automobile industry will continue to maintain a growth rate of at least 8% in 2016, mainly due to high market demand and low loan interest rate. It is estimated that by 2020, Morocco's car sales are expected to reach 200000 units per year. Due to the development of the automobile industry, the main market driven by it is the automobile parts market. BMI survey shows that there are more and more international brand parts in the market, including learcorp, Delphi and plastic Omnium, etc. the overall market prospect of automobile and parts is bright.
Appliance industry
Home appliance industry is a relatively small industry in Morocco, dominated by private enterprises, mainly relying on imports. At present, Morocco has no assembly and production enterprise of TV sets and household air conditioners. Since the early 1990s, the household appliance assembly industry has been gradually developed. The refrigerator and washing machine sectors have begun to take shape, accounting for 40% and 30% of the domestic market share respectively. But it's still a relatively small industry in general (according to industry insiders, there are no more than 2000 employees in the whole industry at present).
From the general trend of development, although the Moroccan government has issued a series of policies to encourage investment and economic development since the 1990s (such as the promulgation of the new investment law, the decrease of consumer credit interest rate, National Housing Engineering, etc.), the stimulation to the household electrical appliances production industry is very slow. The import of home appliance products still occupies an important position in Morocco's home appliance market. TV sets and air conditioners are all imported as a whole machine, while refrigerators and washing machines are both imported as a whole machine and as spare parts. Meanwhile, according to lorenzadela, an analyst at Eurovision international, a consumer electronics research Institute, Morocco's home appliance market is still in the worst recession in 2009 It maintained a growth rate of 3%. It can be seen that Morocco is a market with great growth potential and security at the same time. This reminds us that the market of motorcycle appliances deserves our attention.
Medical apparatus and instruments
Morocco's overall medical level is not high and its development is unbalanced. At present, the common development policy of public health institutions and private health institutions and the separate management policy of medicine are implemented. Morocco's main hospitals, sickbeds and doctors are concentrated in several big cities in the west coast and the central part, and the eastern, Southeast, southern desert and semi desert areas are short of medicine. According to the report on November 25, 2015 on the website of sibris, Morocco imported 4 billion dirhams (about 490 million US dollars) of drugs and medical raw materials, a year-on-year increase of 9%, and exported 643.7 million dirhams (about 78.98 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 2%. Morocco has 40 pharmaceutical factories, 50 distributors and 11500 pharmacies. But domestic drugs can only meet 70% of domestic demand. It can be seen that Morocco's import of medical equipment and drugs has a steady upward trend. In addition, in recent years, China Morocco relations have developed well. Morocco's medical equipment import accounted for 9% of the total import, ranking fourth. North African countries are also actively promoting the development of health care. All of these provide a great opportunity for Chinese medical equipment and pharmaceutical enterprises to enter the Moroccan market.
Packaging and printing industry
According to the data of German Engineering Association, Morocco, as the fifth largest importer of packaging products in Africa, imported packaging products in 2013 reached US $96 million. In the next five years, it will increase by 4.6% annually. From the analysis of the finished packaging products, plastic packaging accounted for the most, hard plastic accounted for 28.2%, soft plastic accounted for 12.9%), cardboard ranked second, cardboard accounted for 25.6%, paper bags accounted for 7.9%. However, Morocco, known as the "back garden of Europe", has always been at the forefront of the Middle East and African countries in terms of environmental protection. Especially in the past five years, paper packaging is rapidly seizing the market share of plastic packaging. From the perspective of packaging application layer, thanks to the fact that the food industry is the second pillar industry in Morocco, food packaging accounts for 33.8% and industrial packaging accounts for 26.4% in the second place. It is worth mentioning that with the increasing attention of personal health care, the packaging output of this sector is increasing by 10% every year. The huge market demand of packaging and printing industry undoubtedly provides a great opportunity for China's packaging and printing enterprises to enter Morocco.
