Exhibition Background
Cities are the engines of economic growth and innovation, the main battlefield for addressing climate change and poverty, and the key to achieving the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals. On a global scale, green, low-carbon, and high-quality development have become the core path of urban sustainable development, promoting coordinated development of cities in various aspects such as economy, society, and environment. Together, the two inject new vitality into cities and promote their sustainable transformation. The hot topics of global urban sustainable development are highly compatible with the "people-oriented" construction of people's cities, promoting a development pattern of co creation, inclusiveness, coordination, win-win cooperation, and common prosperity. The Shanghai International City and Architecture Expo (hereinafter referred to as the "City Expo"), as one of the supporting theme activities for World City Day, has become an important carrier of the theme with its strong comprehensiveness, wide scale, and high level. The exhibition highly focuses on the people-oriented green, low-carbon, and high-quality development in urban construction, with a particular emphasis on how to achieve this goal in various aspects such as urban planning, architectural design, infrastructure construction, and community management. The City Expo invites top urban planners, architects, environmental experts, and representatives of related enterprises from home and abroad to provide a platform for urban decision-makers, business leaders, and experts and scholars to discuss big plans and seek common development through exchange and cooperation, and jointly draw a beautiful blueprint for smart cities.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that it is necessary to improve the level of urban planning, construction, and governance, accelerate the transformation of the development mode of mega cities, implement urban renewal actions, strengthen urban infrastructure construction, and create livable, resilient, and smart cities. The 2025 City Expo focuses on green, low-carbon, and smart development, helping Shanghai promote the implementation of the "dual carbon" strategy, build an ecological smart city, coordinate urban digital construction with ecological and natural harmony, comprehensively showcase the core concepts, achievements, and application demonstration cases of "people's cities built by the people, people's cities for the people" in the construction, operation, and management of high-quality urban sustainable development. The core concept of this year's Urban Expo is to promote green, low-carbon and high-quality development with a people-oriented approach, aiming to showcase cutting-edge technology, share successful cases, promote international cooperation, and jointly explore the path of urban green and low-carbon transformation. The exhibition will integrate more rich case materials and achievements to jointly build the value system of "People's City". By focusing on key application areas of high-quality urban development such as architecture, transportation, water affairs, urban management, greening, environmental protection, and gas, it will promote sustainable urban development.
