IESR: Indonesia's photovoltaic market is expected to add 520MW of installed capacity in 2022!

Indonesia has at least 207GW of photovoltaic potential and has always been one of the major photovoltaic markets in Southeast Asia. However, due to a lack of consistency, clarity, and attractiveness in government regulations, the market has not experienced much growth in the past decade. In October 2021, the Indonesian government and PLN released the RupTL 2021-2030, also known as the "Green RupTL". This document elucidates the government's ambitious goal of deploying at least 20GW of renewable energy by 2030, making photovoltaics in Indonesia once again a hot topic. In this blueprint, the Indonesian government aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 and tends to gradually abandon coal-fired projects.

According to IESR research, as of the third quarter of 2021, the total installed capacity of photovoltaics in Indonesia has reached 176.3 MWp. Compared to 2020, rooftop photovoltaics have grown by 17.9 MWp, and most ongoing IPP projects (585MWp) are expected to reach commercial grid connection by 2023 or 2024.
