Exhibition Introduction:

The 11th Kenya International Solar Energy Exhibition aims to provide the largest platform in Africa for experts in related industries to communicate with local and international companies and institutions, in order to seek solutions to the electricity, current, energy supply, distribution, and transportation issues faced by Kenya. In 2025, more than 150 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions around the world will come to participate, with representative exhibitors including Jinlang, Deye, Haineng, Shuoru, Huamei Xingtai, Runma, etc.

Market background:

Kenya, as a country with relatively high levels of solar radiation throughout the year, has great strategic significance for solar energy projects. It is worth noting that Kenya has over 300 days of sunshine per year, which is twice that of Germany. Germany is the country with the highest solar energy production in the world, with an installed capacity of over 40000 megawatts of photovoltaic modules. Several African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia, have identified energy transition and the application of photovoltaic technology in non electrified villages as important strategies for their future energy development. They hope to leverage advanced technology and abundant global resources to create a model for photovoltaic applications and further enhance the country's energy independence.

The completion of this power station has further increased the proportion of renewable energy generation in Kenya, pushed down electricity prices, and benefited a large number of electricity users. In February 2025, the Wajir County solar project signed between China Power International Technology Co., Ltd. and Kenya Power Lighting Corporation (KPLC) is a milestone. After completion, the project is expected to provide clean electricity to 1.2 million households without electricity, benefiting 30% of Kenya's administrative regions.

According to the plan, by 2027, grid connected solar energy storage projects will account for 35% of Kenya's total installed energy storage capacity, showing an accelerated development trend. Off grid photovoltaic microgrids play a key role in rural electrification in Kenya. According to a report by the New Frontier Industry Research Center, approximately 20% of Kenyan households have adopted solar microgrids or standalone systems. In February 2025, Kenyan President William Samoi Ruto launched the Kenya Off Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP), a 10 billion Kenyan shilling initiative covering 14 counties aimed at expanding power supply to remote areas through microgrids and independent solar systems. Solar photovoltaic microgrids have the advantages of environmental friendliness, flexible scale, and low construction costs, making them particularly suitable for remote areas in Kenya where the power grid is difficult to cover.

Globally, the market size of photovoltaic microgrids is expected to grow from $3.02 billion in 2024 to $20.56 billion in 2034, with a compound annual growth rate of 21.2%, and Kenya is a key growth point for this market. The "Green Industrial Park Plan" launched by the Kenyan government requires the construction and renovation of industrial parks to adopt photovoltaic and energy storage systems to achieve self-sufficiency in clean energy. Enterprises participating in the program can enjoy low interest loans and tax reductions, and have the opportunity to use renewable energy certificates (RECs) for carbon trading. It is worth mentioning that Kenya is collaborating with international enterprises to build a new energy industrial demonstration zone, which will enable energy storage systems to not only serve grid peak shaving, but also support stable operation of industrial production. This policy directly stimulates the demand for photovoltaic energy storage systems in the industrial and commercial sectors. It is expected that by 2026, the installed capacity of energy storage in this field will account for more than 40% of the national total.
