Exhibition Introduction

Nigeria is vigorously advancing its renewable energy ambitions, releasing billions of dollars in investment and accelerating the transition to reliable, economical, and clean energy. Solar&Storage Live Nigeria is the most influential and future oriented clean energy event in West Africa, showcasing large-scale solar, energy storage, and smart energy solutions. The exhibition brings together the entire value chain of the solar and energy storage industry, from C&I developers and installers to EPCs, investors, regulatory agencies, software innovators, and government agencies, to gather in Lagos in July. It is not just an exhibition, but also a commercial launch platform aimed at a dynamic platform that focuses on practical solutions, connects major market participants, and accelerates investment inflows and project completion. Terrapinn has been established for over 30 years, utilizing powerful media and industry resources to provide a platform for communication and innovation for enterprises. Major energy exhibitions include South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nigeria, Egypt, UK, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, France, Spain, Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, covering major global photovoltaic and energy storage markets. The main participants of the exhibition include: Sunac Power, Huawei, Jinlang, CATL, Jinko, JA Solar, Tianhe, Longi, BYD, Antai, Zhongxinbo, etc.

Market situation

1. Nigeria's vast areas have good lighting conditions, with an average daily sunshine duration of 6.25 hours, about 3.5 hours in the northern coastal areas of the country, and an average daily solar radiation of about 3.5 kilowatts per square meter per year. The daily average solar radiation in coastal areas, especially those located at the southern and northern borders, is 7.0 kilowatts per square meter. Nigeria can obtain approximately 4909.212 kilowatts of solar energy per hour, equivalent to about 1.082 million tons of oil. It is estimated that by 2050, Nigeria's renewable energy will contribute to 11% -13% of its economic growth.

Nigeria is the largest economy in sub Saharan Africa, with a gross domestic product of approximately 448 billion US dollars. Nigeria's severe power shortage problem: Nigeria's power grid is fragile and power outages are frequent. Over the past 10 years, there have been nearly 140 malfunctions, with some areas experiencing stable power supply for only 5-6 hours per day. In just the first two months of 2025, there have been two nationwide power grid collapses, and the problem of electricity shortage far exceeds official statistical data, becoming a major hidden danger that restricts economic development and social stability. Population growth and electricity demand: Nigeria has a population base of over 220 million and a high population growth rate, with a huge potential number of users for household photovoltaic energy storage systems.

3. The Rise of Nigeria's Solar Energy: An Attack on Africa's Fifth Largest Market. Nigeria has jumped to become the fifth largest solar installation country in Africa, with a total installed capacity of 73 megawatts by 2024. As of 2024, the country's cumulative solar installed capacity has reached 385.7 megawatts, but its potential is far from being developed: the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) points out that if 1% of suitable land is utilized, the power generation can reach 210 gigawatts.

Faced with the energy crisis, the Nigerian government has formulated a three-stage Energy Transition Plan (ETP) with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2060. 2030 goal: Add 42GW of grid capacity, deploy 6.3GW of off grid photovoltaics, and solve the problem of electricity popularization. 2050 goal: Achieve 197GW of photovoltaic installed capacity and 100GW of energy storage deployment, replacing 100% of diesel generators. By 2060, the target is to increase the installed capacity of photovoltaics to 250GW (covering over 50% of electricity demand) and deploy 112GW of energy storage.

Nigeria has developed a "Green Vision" plan with the goal of deploying 30GW of electricity by 2030, of which 30% should come from renewable energy sources. The Nigerian government has announced an annual investment of $600 million in electricity subsidies between 2025 and 2027, aimed at bridging the gap between cost reflecting electricity prices and regulated electricity prices. The plan includes providing users with a unified monthly subsidy or a subsidy for the first 50 kilowatt hours of electricity consumption each month, and completing the installation of smart meters for 7 million users by 2027.

6. Market growth forecast: Bloomberg New Energy Finance predicts that Nigeria's cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity will reach 21.5GW by 2030, far higher than previous forecasts. With the increasing support of the Nigerian government for renewable energy and the sustained growth of market demand, the photovoltaic and energy storage markets are expected to achieve rapid development. The African Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (REEEF) provides low interest loans for solar energy storage projects in Nigeria, while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) collaborates with local banks to launch green bonds with annual interest rates below 5%, providing financial support for market development.

7. Chinese enterprises in Nigeria: The itel brand under Transsion Holdings has launched multiple energy storage products in Nigeria, including inverters, batteries, portable energy storage devices, and all-in-one machines; JinkoSolar has successfully delivered the Blue Whale SunTera large-scale energy storage system in sub Saharan Africa. Companies such as LONGi, Sunac Power, BYD, etc. also actively participated in the exhibition, bringing integrated photovoltaic and energy storage solutions, and signed microgrid construction project agreements with Nigeria's National Electricity Company (TCN) and local EPC companies.
