Market Analysis

The Russian automotive parts market

1. Total trade volume and growth rate:

In 2023, the total trade volume between China and Russia will exceed 240 billion US dollars, reaching a historic high with significant year-on-year growth.

In January and February 2024, the total import and export volume between China and Russia reached 37.0103 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%. Among them, China's exports to Russia amounted to 16.8079 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%; China imported $202.024 billion from Russia, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%.

2. Growth in Auto Parts Imports:

The Russian auto parts market has been facing the dilemma of foreign brands and parts withdrawing in recent years, resulting in a large dependence on imported parts from China. Starting from 2023, this growth rate will be particularly evident. The sales growth of Chinese brands' complete vehicles and auto parts in Russia is strong, with some brands achieving over 100% growth, surpassing the market share of traditional Japanese, Korean, European, and American brands.

3. Specific vehicle models and brand growth:

In the first quarter of 2024, Russia imported approximately 300000 passenger cars from China, a 2.5-fold increase from the same period last year, demonstrating strong demand for Chinese cars in the Russian market. The market share of Chinese brands in the Russian market continues to grow, from 17% in 2022 to 46% in 2023, and is expected to further expand in the future.

4. Tariffs and fees:

The tariff and fee system for imported cars in Russia is relatively complex, but new car tariffs are usually fixed, and the tax rate may vary depending on the country of origin and model. Despite tariffs, the competitiveness of Chinese cars in the Russian market remains strong.

5. Market opportunities:

After the conflict between Russia-Ukraine conflict, international car companies withdrew from the Russian market, resulting in insufficient production capacity of Russian passenger cars and strong demand for imported cars, which provided a huge market opportunity for Chinese car companies. The macroeconomic situation in Russia has improved, China's automotive product strength is strong, and its market capacity in Russia has significantly increased. The prospects for Chinese vehicle and parts companies in the Russian market are promising.
