Exhibition Introduction

Vietnam Medipharm is an international exhibition held annually in the capital city of Hanoi, hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and organized by the Vietnam National Advertising Expo Company (VIETFAIR). With strong support from the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, this exhibition has become the largest and most influential professional regular exhibition in the medical and health field in Vietnam, and is also one of the well-known professional medical exhibitions in Southeast Asia. Since the first "China Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment (Vietnam) Exhibition" was held simultaneously in 2007, this exhibition has become the most professional international exhibition in the medical field in Vietnam. It is also the exclusive "China" brand exhibition for Chinese pharmaceutical and medical enterprises to explore the Vietnamese market, attracting many large enterprises in the Chinese pharmaceutical and medical industry to participate every year.

Exhibition Overview

The previous exhibition had a total exhibition area of 9000 square meters in four exhibition halls, with 550 booths. The exhibition attracted 450 companies and representatives from 30 countries and regions including Vietnam, China, India, Poland, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, South Korea, the United States, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Russia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan, Pakistan, Finland, Singapore, Thailand, Sweden and Taiwan, China. According to the sponsor's post exhibition survey, 83.8% of the exhibitors said they were very satisfied with the results of the exhibition, of which 89% said they would continue to participate in the next annual exhibition.

Market Overview

Vietnam is one of the emerging markets in Southeast Asia, and its stable and growing economic situation has nurtured considerable potential for various industries. As for the medical device industry in Vietnam, according to third-party data statistics, the market value of medical devices in Vietnam was about 1.4 billion US dollars in 2019, ranking 9th in the Asia Pacific region. It is estimated that the domestic market will reach 2 billion US dollars by 2023. The estimated market share of this medical device, divided by product field, will be dominated by consumables, with a market share of approximately 582 million US dollars, accounting for 28% of the total market share; Next are diagnostic imaging equipment and patient assistance devices; In addition, the estimated market share of dental products will be $83 million, accounting for 4% of the total market share.

However, Vietnam's medical device market is highly dependent on imports, with over 90% of medical devices imported from abroad, including 55% from Japan, Germany, the United States, China, and Singapore. Imported products mainly include precision or specialized instruments (such as X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography scanners), as well as other equipment used for surgery, endoscopy, disinfection, testing, and medical waste disposal. The domestic market contributes less than 10% to the market share, and most domestic manufacturers mainly produce simple, low value medical devices, such as surgical knives and disposable medical products.

The Vietnamese government encourages the entry of social capital and foreign capital into the healthcare industry and drives its development. The new Investment Law of Vietnam in 2020 explicitly encourages foreign investment in scientific research related to medical examination and treatment, drug production, preparation technology for producing new drugs, and biotechnology; Investment in medical fields such as medical equipment manufacturing. In addition, in recent years, Vietnam has signed multiple bilateral and multilateral free trade and investment agreements, such as the Vietnam EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the Vietnam UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which have reduced tariffs, lowered trade and investment barriers, and played a positive role in promoting trade and investment in the medical device industry.
