Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is one of the oldest museums established by China itself. It is also the only provincial museum in Zhejiang Province that mainly collects, researches and displays specimens of life sciences and earth sciences. The museum's predecessor was the West Lake Museum of Zhejiang Province. It was founded in 1929 and was established independently in 1984. The existing building area is nearly 8,000 square meters.
