The new museum is located in Xinzhou surrounded by Ganjiang River and Fuhe River in Nanchang. It is adjacent to Fuhe River in the East, Zhongshan Bridge in the south, Ganjiang River in the West and Tengwang Pavilion, one of the three famous buildings in the south of the Yangtze River in the north. It has a beautiful environment. It covers an area of 60 mu, with a building area of 35000 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 13000 square meters. It combines the three museums of history, nature and revolution to form a large comprehensive museum This is the first time in China.
At the beginning of the founding of new China, Jiangxi provincial Party committee and provincial government attached great importance to the museum cause and decided to build Jiangxi Provincial Museum on the basis of the former provincial science museum. In March 1953, Jiangxi Provincial Museum preparatory office was established, and in July 1957, a display building was built at the south end of Bayi Square in Nanchang city. On July 1, 1961, Jiangxi Provincial Museum officially opened. In 1978, Jiangxi Revolutionary History Museum was renamed Jiangxi Revolutionary Museum, and Jiangxi Provincial Museum was renamed Jiangxi history museum. In 1981, the two museums merged, still known as Jiangxi Provincial Museum. In the past 50 years, Jiangxi Provincial Museum has become a large-scale comprehensive museum famous at home and abroad through the efforts of the pioneers and generations. On October 1, 1999, Jiangxi Provincial Museum, the largest cultural infrastructure invested since the founding of the people's Republic of China, was completed and officially opened to the outside world, marking that Jiangxi Provincial Museum entered the new century with a new attitude.

The Museum covers an area of 60 mu, with a building area of 35000 square meters and a exhibition hall area of 13000 square meters. The main building modeling absorbed the modeling characteristics of Jingdezhen porcelain of Ming Dynasty, the three pipe ware unearthed in Jiangxi Province, adopted geometric modeling techniques, combined with circle, arc, cylinder, ambulatory and ring corridor, and integrated ancient ceramic art and modern architectural style. It not only has rich cultural connotation, but also has the style of modern architecture, reflecting the long-standing civilization of Jiangxi Unity and the spirit of the contemporary Jiangxi people to keep up with the pace of the times.
The new museum is composed of the history museum, the Revolution Museum and the nature museum. The center is the history museum, and the South and north sides are the Revolution Museum and the nature museum. The corridors of the three museums are connected and the doorways are connected. The museum has first-class cultural relic safety protection system, automatic fire alarm system, constant temperature and humidity central air conditioning system.
