Introduction

Guangdong Provincial Museum, located at No. 215, Wenming Road, Dongshan District, Guangzhou City, was founded in 1959. It is a provincial comprehensive geological museum and a patriotism education base and social practice base in Guangzhou. The Guangdong Provincial Museum, which was originally Guangdong's Gongyuan in the Qing Dynasty, covers an area of 43000 square meters. There are national key cultural relics protection units - the former site of the "first great" of the Kuomintang (including the revolutionary Square) and the cultural relics protection units of Guangdong Province - Honglou, Zhongshan University Observatory, as well as the Guangzhou Lu Xun Memorial Hall. Preparations for Guangdong Provincial Museum began in 1957. The site of the museum is located at the old site of Zhongshan University (i.e. the old Gongyuan), No. 6 Wenming Road (now No. 215). The design of the exhibition building was originally a "U" shaped building, with the main building facing the East, the South Auxiliary Building on the right and the north auxiliary building on the left, with a building area of about 14000 square meters. The South Auxiliary building was completed in the first half of 1959. It is three stories high and covers an area of 3500 square meters. After the main building and the north auxiliary building, due to economic difficulties, no funds were allocated. On October 1, 1959, Guangdong Provincial Museum and its Guangzhou Lu Xun Memorial Hall opened to the public. After the reform and opening up, in order to meet the growing cultural needs of the people, Guangdong Museum decided to build a new exhibition building on the original site. In October 1992, the new exhibition building was completed, with a total construction area of 18700 square meters, including 12300 square meters of new buildings, with a display area of 6000 square meters, four times that of the original building of more than 1500 square meters. Over the past decades, Guangdong Provincial Museum has launched many large-scale exhibitions with great social impact, such as "Guangdong historical relics exhibition", "Guangdong unearthed cultural relics exhibition", "Guangdong reform and opening up achievement exhibition", "Mr. Shang chengzuo donated cultural relics boutique Exhibition", "Liu Shaoqi brilliant performance Exhibition", etc. At present, the basic contents of the museum are: the grand history of Guangdong, the lacquer wood essence - Chaozhou woodcarving art exhibition, the South China Sea maritime Silk Road, Guangdong rare animal exhibition, Lu Xun's life and memory, the Kuomintang's "one big" and the first CCP historical materials display. These exhibitions, which are based on the historical and cultural characteristics and collection advantages of Guangdong Province, reflect the long history and cultural accumulation and rich natural resources of Lingnan culture. In addition, some special temporary exhibitions are launched irregularly every year. Since the opening of the museum, more than 300 exhibitions have been held. From 1985 to 2004, 8-9 exhibitions have been held every year on average. Millions of visitors. In terms of preservation and collection of cultural relics, through various channels such as collection, acquisition and allocation, the collection of Guangdong Provincial Museum has grown from scratch, from few to many. At present, the total number has reached more than 130000 pieces (sets), more than 25000 pieces (sets) of geological cultural relics, specimens and fossils, as well as tens of thousands of books and materials. Among them, the number and quality of ceramics, calligraphy and painting of all previous dynasties in China are in the forefront of national museums, and the unearthed cultural relics, golden wood carvings and Duan inkstones in Guangdong are the most abundant and have the most local characteristics. In recent years, Guangdong Provincial Museum pays special attention to the investigation and collection of folk cultural relics of three major ethnic groups, and takes further improvement of collection quality and strengthening of regional cultural characteristics as the standard. Entering the new century, Guangdong Museum ushered in a once-in-a-lifetime development opportunity. In 2003, Guangdong provincial Party committee and government decided to invest 900 million yuan to build a new museum of Guangdong province in Guangzhou Pearl River new town. The new museum project of Guangdong Province is one of the key construction projects of "ten projects" and one of the three major cultural facilities in Guangdong Province. The new museum of Guangdong Province is located in the south of the central area of Zhujiang New City, bordering on the Pearl River. It echoes with Guangzhou Opera House on the left and right, is located on the East and west sides of the axis of the new city, and forms Guangzhou culture and Art Square together with central Linyin Avenue and riverside green belt. The total planned land area of the new museum is 41000 m2, the floor area of the ground part is about 48000 m2, and the underground part is about 15000 m2, totaling about 63000 m2. The civil engineering and general equipment installation investment of the project is about RMB 455 million, and the expenses for interior decoration and exhibition arrangement of exhibition hall, special equipment for storage of collections, etc. are not included in the above cost of RMB 455 million. The new museum of Guangdong Province focuses on the three main exhibition directions of Guangdong history, folk custom, art and nature, including history museum, nature museum and art museum. In addition, it is equipped with exhibition system, collection management system, education and comprehensive service system, business research system, security system and administrative management system. These infrastructures and advanced management system will make the new provincial museum become a large comprehensive museum with leading domestic and international standards. As one of the three landmark cultural facilities in Guangdong Province, the construction of the new museum of Guangdong Province plays an important role in adding the cultural color and atmosphere of Guangzhou, reflecting the status of Guangzhou as the cultural center of South China, strengthening international cultural exchanges and building Guangzhou into a modern international metropolis.
